How to send personalised newsletters?

I didn't find any reference in the documentation or the user-interface on how to send out personalised newsletters. Is there any way that this can be achieved? If not it's not possible from within SendGrid, are there other apps out there which use SendGrid for delivery and have implemented the email/newsletter personalisation part separately?

Can you please define "personalized"?

There are many ways you can create your own email newsletters, such as pasting HTML in the email template editor and using tags for content such as [name], [company], [email], etc.

The Newsletter Documentation is being worked on at this time and should be released within a few weeks. At that time, using the Newsletter API will be thoroughly explained.

If you have other goals in terms of personalization, please explain so we can address those specifically.

Two "levels" of personalisation:

  • First: Every email ID in my newsletter list can have multiple custom profile fields like name, age, city, etc. Ability to insert the custom field in the email resulting in a personalised email being sent out. For example, Hi [name], we thought you would be interesting in deals around [city]
  • Second: Ability to insert custom template fragments based on conditions. For example, [if city='Delhi'] offer 1, offer 2, offer 3[/if] [if city='Mumbai']offer 4, offer 5[/if]

#1 - yes, you can do this by defining the custom "tags" as you like in the email body template and having the corresponding tags as column titles in the list you use.

#2 - no, we do not currently support this type of conditional sending. perhaps we can implement that in future releases of the newsletter, since it seems like a really cool ability!

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have further q's.
