Using a Google Groups email to receive SendGrid notifications

Objective

This article outlines how to verify delivery, troubleshoot, and resolve issues when email notifications from SendGrid are not received by group members, despite being delivered by Twilio/SendGrid.

Product

Twilio SendGrid Email

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

To set up email address for SendGrid notifications: Primary administrator or Teammate with administration permissions.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Group settings in groups.google.com and ensure that “Allow Email Posting” is enabled. Information on this setting is available at Create a group & choose group settings.
  2. If possible, add our notification email addresses directly to your group, as explained at Add people to your group.
  3. If you cannot add our notification email addresses as group members, make sure that the “Who can post” option is set to “Anyone on the web”. The reason is that our sending email addresses are no-reply ones, and therefore, you cannot invite them as group members.

Additional Information

When possible, please avoid using a Google group for distribution of notifications to several members of your team. Instead, please use a regular mailbox, and create routing rules, so emails from our email addresses can be forwarded to all the intended recipients. For Google Workspace, documentation in this regard is available at Add Gmail Routing settings
