Objective
This article provides guidance on how to extract and view the raw JSON request payload from Twilio SendGrid SDK code for troubleshooting integration issues.
Product
Twilio SendGrid Email
Procedure
While Twilio SendGrid Support does not perform code reviews for custom applications, you can extract the underlying JSON payload generated by official SendGrid SDKs to inspect or submit the request body directly.
Step 1: Locate SDK Troubleshooting Documentation
-
Navigate to the official SendGrid GitHub Organization.
-
Search for the repository corresponding to your programming language or framework (e.g., sendgrid-nodejs, sendgrid-python, sendgrid-php).
-
Open the TROUBLESHOOTING.md file located in the root directory of the repository.
- Refer to the Viewing the Request Body section for instructions specific to your language SDK.
Step 2: Add Debugging Snippet to Extract JSON (Node.js Example)
Standard SDK execution only outputs status codes and HTTP headers. To print the JSON payload:
- Open your script containing the sgMail implementation.
- Append the helper helper/debug block to convert the mail object into a JSON string:
const {
classes: {
Mail,
},
} = require('@sendgrid/helpers');
const mail = Mail.create(msg);
const body = mail.toJSON();
console.log(JSON.stringify(body));Step 3: Execute Script and Verify Output
- Run your application file from the command line:
node mailsend.js
- Confirm that the formatted JSON payload prints directly above the HTTP response headers in the console output:
{"from":{"email":"wbtest@tst.ahome.today"},
"subject":"Sending with Twilio SendGrid is Fun 2",
"personalizations":[{"to":[{"email":"sendgridtesting@gmail.com"}]}],
"content":[{"value":"and easy to do anywhere, even with Node.js","type":"text/plain"}],
"reply_to":{"email":"wbtest@tst.ahome.today"}}
Status Code: 202Additional Information
-
Multi-Language Support: Similar troubleshooting guides and request body extraction methods exist across all official SendGrid SDK repositories (Python, PHP, Java, Ruby, C#, Go).
- API Reference: Once extracted, you can validate your raw JSON against the SendGrid v3 Mail Send API Reference.
