Error: DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004) in CloudFlare CDN

Sometimes, after correctly adding a record in Cloudflare, our system cannot validate it or users may see DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004). This happens because the record is not available via the public internet. This guide explains how CloudFlare CDN users can resolve this issue.

Overview

When adding a new A or CNAME record via the CloudFlare DNS panel, your record may default to Proxied status.

Proxied CNAME records are not available publicly, so you will need to update this status in order to use the record with SendGrid email.

To resolve this issue, click the arrow-cloud button next to the record, so it reads DNS only. Once this is updated, our system will be able to detect the record.
