What You Need To Know

Closure or deletion of your Twilio SendGrid account will result in you permanently losing access to your account and the data in the account.

Twilio will retain some personal information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in our Privacy Policy. After closure of your account, certain information associated with your account may remain on Twilio’s servers in an aggregated form that does not identify you or your end users. Similarly, after you close your account, we will retain data — including personal data — associated with your account that we are required to maintain for legal purposes or for necessary business operations (see “How Long We Store Your Customer Account Data” section above) until it’s no longer needed.

For Twilio customers, including Twilio SendGrid customers, you have the ability to manage and delete data you control through the services. Twilio provides UIs and APIs that allow you to delete data from the services.

If you are a Twilio SendGrid customer, most data is automatically deleted according to the retention schedule. SendGrid retains some email event data in pseudonymized form for up to a year for security, fraud detection, anti-abuse, and network protection purposes. SendGrid provides tools such as the Erase Recipients' Email Data API for deleting end-user personal data processed by the service.

Data retention practices for Twilio services involve storing data for a specified period, which can be configured by users. Message Redaction is available to control stored information, offering more privacy for sensitive data. After termination, Customer Content is deleted after 30 days, while Customer Account Data is typically deleted 60 days after closing an account unless required for specific reasons outlined in the Data Protection Addendum.

Twilio promptly processes data deletion requests, but the actual deletion timeline varies based on data type, service used, and legal requirements. Documentation for each service details data properties, specifying personal information (PII) and the minimum time data must be held before deletion.

For SendGrid service users, email message bodies are retained temporarily, while most other personal data, including email recipient data, is kept for a maximum of 37 days. Events related to sent emails are stored for up to a year for security and fraud detection purposes. In certain cases, random content samples may be held for seven days for security and troubleshooting.

Please read our support page on Data Retention for more detailed information about our retention and deletion practices.

Overall, Twilio SendGrid follows data retention and deletion practices in compliance with privacy regulations and security standards to ensure the protection of customer data. Our Data Protection Addendum includes more detailed information about data protection.
