How to Disable or Turn Off Link Branding

Objective

Some SSL guides and link troubleshooting steps may ask you to disable Link Branding. Here’s our guide on how to turn it off.

Product

Twilio SendGrid Email

User Account Permission/Role(s) Required

Parent or any admin user (Admin teammate and Subusers)

Procedure

While the instruction can mention the work 'disable', the best way to do this is to actually remove the entry of the link branding domain record created. To disable Link Branding, you need to delete the full entry.

This can be particularly useful when a link is broken and needs to be created from scratch, or even when you don't need any kind of wrapping in your links, for example, if you have duplicate entries.

Note: once deleted, it CANNOT be recovered.

To achieve this:

  1. Log in to your Twilio SendGrid account
  2. In the SendGrid console you can disable Link Branding from Settings
  3. Then click on Sender Authentication
  4. You will be prompted to the list of domains and Link Branding domains. Click on the branded Link you want to remove
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen containing the CNAME records, and hit the red Delete button in the left corner

Note: Please note that if you still have Click Tracking enabled, links will still wrap as https://ct.sendgrid.net, if you don't wish to have any type of wrapping, feel free to turn off click tracking from Tracking settings, or by using: Disable Marketing Campaigns Click Tracking Settings

Additional Information

Turning off/deleting link branding from SendGrid console will not affect the links in emails that have already been sent. These links will remain as they were at the time of sending.

Links will only break if you remove the records associated with the branded link configured from your DNS host. You can check more details about Link Branding and SSL in these documents:
